Thiobacillus Ferrooxidans
This exceptional bacterium plays a dual role in both bio-mining and agriculture. In bio-mining, Thiobacillus Ferrooxidans has the unique ability to oxidize ferrous iron and sulfide minerals, contributing to the eco-friendly extraction of valuable metals from ores. In agriculture, this bacterium, in synergy with mycorrhizal fungi, assists in the mobilization of sulfur and iron, two essential nutrients for plant growth. By converting these elements into forms that plants can readily absorb, Thiobacillus Ferrooxidans and Mycorrhizal Fungi improve crop health and yield while promoting sustainable farming practices.
Note: Available in 250g packaging
Thiobacillus Ferrooxidans, a gram-negative, obligate autotroph, is a chemolithotrophic bacterium known for its remarkable ability to oxidize inorganic compounds. Thriving in acidic environments, this bacterium prefers oxygen-rich conditions and is commonly found in a variety of settings, including bioleaching operations, sulfur springs, and acid mine drainage sites. Its capability to oxidize ferrous iron and sulfur compounds has marked it as a key player in both agriculture and bio-mining sectors.

Eco-friendly Metal Extraction
Contributes to the bioleaching process, promoting the eco-friendly extraction of valuable metals from oresSustainable Agriculture
Mobilizes essential nutrients like sulfur and iron, improving crop health and yield, and promoting sustainable farming practicesSoil Remediation
Plays a role in the remediation of contaminated soils, contributing to environmental preservationThiobacillus Ferrooxidans oxidizes ferrous iron and sulfur compounds via a series of biochemical reactions mediated by specific enzymes like rusticyanin and sulfide:quinone oxidoreductase. This ability is crucial in transforming these elements into forms that plants can readily absorb, and also enables the bioleaching process in bio-mining, assisting the extraction of metals from ores.
Applications
- Bio-mining for extraction of metals from ores
- Soil fertility enhancement in agriculture
- Remediation of contaminated soils
